I have a really funny story to tell you but I have lot of back story first.
My dad is a total germophobe. When I was growing up I never saw him kiss my mom (maybe partially why they got divorced?) and we weren't allowed to kiss him on the lips and weren't supposed to kiss anyone else on the lips either-you would get their germs. He would never let you drink out of his cup, much less take a bite off of his spoon. I grew up thinking that was normal.
Then I started dating Tim. He was all about sharing a can of pop, a glass, or taking a bite off of my silverware, it just wasn't weird to him. It took me a while to not think it was abnormal, but I figured if I kissed the man, what was the difference? Today we share a lot of things and it's not weird to me at all.
One of the things we share is a bathroom. We keep our toothbrushes in a cup on the sink. We use the toothbrushes the dentist gives us so we try to always get strikingly different colors so we don't get them confused. Because that's one thing we don't share is a toothbrush.
One time he used my toothbrush, but I had just gone to the dentist and had a new one so I just chucked the old one. No harm done.
The last time I went to the dentist I didn't think about it when she gave me a toothbrush, it was light blue. I got home and realized Tim's was a light green. Both very similar. I told Tim we'd have to pay attention to make sure we didn't use the wrong one. He just laughed because for some reason it wouldn't gross him out to use the same toothbrush. Yuck!
The other night Tim went to bed before me and when I went in to brush my teeth, my toothbrush was wet. Tim had used mine. Oh how nasty!
The next night as we were in the bathroom getting ready for bed I mentioned to him that he had used my toothbrush and he just laughed. Then he said, "Well we swap spit, now we'll just trade tarter!"
Then he just kept laughing and laughing. I told him I'd have to blog it and he just laughed and said, "You and your blogging!" And then he laughed some more.
At some random point the following day Tim said to me, "Trade tarter!" And laughed again.
The man is just not right. Not right I tell you!

I'm with you. I can share a lot of things with Andy but the toothbrush is the end of the line for me!! YUCK!!
I also don't like to share milk--and I can only drink it out of glass, no plastic.
Trade tartar. He, he, he.
I also can't stand sharing toothbrushes, but my husband doesn't seem to mind. YUCK!
I think "trading tarter" is hysterical! :)
Mom is just so wonderful, Dad wants to be with her in every way, even "trading tartar"! Since he respects her boundaries, he doesn't use her toothbrush on purpose. Maybe he'll get a bright colored one for CHRISTmas from Santa to help him maintain toothbrush boundaries.
