Dogs and Birds

Simon has become a chatty little boy lately. Especially in the car. He sits in the back with Jesse, who isn't great with conversation just yet so mostly Simon talks to himself. At some point in his conversation with himself he will expect you to be listening and respond. And usually we are listening because I have to have something to write on my blog afterall.

Mutterings about whatever he sees out the window.
"There's a dog."
"Grandpa and Grandma have a dog."
"Her name is Chelsea."
"I like Chelsea."

"We have to be gentle to Chelsea, don't we Simon?"

"Yeah, I'm nice to Chelsea."
"She likes me."
"We don't have a dog."
"Mary and Josh don't have a dog."
"Mary and Josh have baby Sean."
"I like baby Sean."

At this point Tim and I are cracking up. Apparently Mary and Josh don't need a dog since they have Sean.

"I went to Mary and Josh's house."
"They have a bird."
[They do not have a bird]
"I saw a bird at their house."
"I saw a bird in their house."

"Wait, what? You saw a bird at Mary and Josh's house? It was in the house?"

"Yeah, they have a bird in their house. Cheep, cheep, tweet."

I'm racking my brain trying to think of what bird he could be talking about. He's only been there when I've been there, so if he saw a bird I must have seen it too. I don't remember a bird. What is he talking about? Oh, wait, I know!

"Do you mean the bird in the coo-coo clock?"

"Yeah. Cheep, cheep."

Eli pipes up from the way back, "Coo-coo, coo-coo."

It is amazing what they notice AND remember isn't it? Daniel saw a dead raccoon in the road back in October on the way to the pumpkin patch and he still to this day talks about it.

I love how their little brains work and remember some of the most random details. What a smart boy!
