Training Update

I keep ticking the mileage off each week. I'm making it through. Not jogging the whole time, of course, but making it through. I added up my mileage for my weekend run and it came it at 11.1 miles. I'm only two miles short of a half marathon now. And I'm two weeks out, so that's not too bad of shape. I'll add a mile this coming weekend and then it'll just be the final mile for the actual race. I had originally hoped to be better conditioned for the race by now, but I live a pretty full life outside of running so I'm happy with where I am.

I made it back home after about 2 hours and 45 minutes and I wasn't completely dead on my feet. I was tired, but not like last week where I thought my legs were going to turn to mush. I did get a blister on my little toe due to my feet getting wet from the snow and slush and rubbing in my shoe. I was mostly wore out from running in an inch of snow and I was keeping my muscles very tense to "keep on my toes" so I wouldn't slip on any ice and fall. I'm paranoid of falling and hurting my tailbone. As long as it's taken for it to heal as good as it is now (after Jesse's birth) I'll do most anything to not go though that excruciating pain again.

Saturday night after the kids were in bed Tim and I were snuggled on the couch watching "Hitch" I said I didn't know how people complete marathons, much less run them. Tim then said that he thought maybe I'd get there someday; that I seem to enjoy running. Which is funny to me, since I don't enjoy it very much at all. I've made a commitment to complete the race, and I paid the entrance fee, so I'll complete it, and the training is what I need to do to make that happen, so that's what I do. I do like how I feel afterwards, but it's hard to stay motivated out there by myself—maybe if I had a running buddy….any volunteers?

I'm getting really excited about our weekend vacation. I still have a lot of "Mom logistics" to work out for each of the boys (they are going three different places), but it's worth it.

Good for you! If I lived closer and had any interest in running, I'd be your running buddy. :)

You're going to be a star!!!

Keep up the work! Sounds like it is paying off. I can't wait to hear how the actual 1/2 marathon goes! I'm sure I will never be able to do what you are doing.

lol This all sounds like boot camp on a nicer level. I've been there in your shoes before, and running the race will great i know it. Ive ran a few myself and I can tell you that once you get near the finish line and you see all those people cheering you on you'll get a huge boost of energy and I'm willing to bet your going to be running to the finish! Cant wait to hear all the details of how it goes, I myself am thinking of running a few triathalons who knows we might run into each other lol.

If you are interested in training in the pool at the Y, I will join you. The deep water instructor, has indicated that marithon runners in off seasons or for training they do so in the pool to gain stamina without stress on their joints.
